Callejones de Arbat ( Arbat Alleys ) tells the adventures of a Cuban journalist in Moscow, during his work in an international organization in the former Soviet bloc. The plot takes place in the times of perestroika and the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the Socialist system in Eastern Europe. The central hero of the novel lives an intense love story with a peculiar hispanic-russian actress, and through the father of hers, initiates in the study and research of the life and work of the Russian writers who were victims of the repressions of the Soviet regime.
